What is it?
The Auto Eclipse Laptop Disabler began with a problem. Drivers were using
their laptops while they should have been driving. A large utility locating
company needed a solution and so they went to one of their suppliers.
Upon doing some research, their supplier discovered our CarPC products
and asked if we had anything that could work to prevent the use of the
laptop while driving the vehicle. Our answer: "No, but we can make
something that can". Upon doing some research, we discovered several
reliable methods of preforming this task. Hence we proceeded to design
a solution without any assistance or guarantees. This solution is a combination
of both hardware and software that work together to detect vehicle motion
and disable use of the laptop. Finally after several months of long days
and much hard work, we had a working prototype!
Eleven prototypes were made and installed into the utility locating company's
trucks. It worked so well that they ordered 600 more shortly thereafter.
Their entire fleet of over 1800 trucks are now all equipped with Auto
Eclipse.
The Result?
After installation of the devices, the accidents that were their fault
were reduced by HALF! Within just 6 months the reduction in accidents
paid for their investment and began putting money back into their bottom
line!
How does it work?
The hardware senses when the vehicle is not, or cannot be, in motion and
sends out data to the PC. When the vehicle is moving, the hardware sends
out a signal and the software on the PC then turns off the PC screen leaving
your PC and any work untouched. Once the vehicle stops the screen instantly
turns back on and the driver may begin working once more.
Can it be bypassed?
Anything can be bypassed, it is more of a question of how hard is it to
be bypassed and can anyone tell if someone has been tampering with the
software or hardware. The Auto Eclipse software is designed to be extremely
difficult to remove or disable by anyone without the proper credentials.
Also detailed logs are taken for virtually every event that happens within
the software. Furthermore, all settings and logs are encrypted so that
tampering is obvious and alterations are impossible. These logs not only
show software tampering, but can also be used to identify hardware tampering.
In the event of an accident or suspected tampering the logs can be analyzed
and signs of tampering will become evident.
Are their different versions?
Yes. There is the Wired Laptop Disabler
and the Wireless Laptop Disabler. The primary differences are listed below.
Auto Eclipse Wired Laptop Disabler uses a 9-Pin Serial
(Not USB) port, and is the original version. It is referred to in documentation
as an AE Pro VOE. With this version drivers may only use their laptops
within the vehicle while parked unless they have a User or Supervisor
Key (see Laptop Disabler
Parts - Wired Version).
Auto Eclipse Wireless Laptop Disabler is the ultimate
solution, allowing use of the laptop anywhere it needs to be. When in
range of the vehicle (approximately 100 feet), it reacts to the vehicle
and disables the screen whenever the vehicle is out of park. When out
of range of the vehicle, the laptop screen is enabled.
How difficult is it to install?
It is not difficult at all. Any car stereo installer or shop should be
capable of performing the installation. Installation time for the software
and hardware should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. There are
only 3 or 4 connections to make, depending upon your vehicle. This product
is compatible with nearly every vehicle, and we provide Installation manuals
for the product and diagrams for your vehicles such as can be seen on
the thumbnail images to the right (click to enlarge).
Our company has a pool of laptops and/or vehicles that
our drivers select at random every day. Will it work for us?
Yes. Both the wired version as well as the wireless version will work. The
wireless version automatically syncs with the vehicle with the strongest
signal, which will be the vehicle where the laptop is located. Once synced,
it will not sync to another unless it looses sync. Once signal is lost,
it will automatically begin trying to re-sync with a vehicle.
We have
a custom need in the software and/or hardware. Is that possible?
It depends upon what is needed. We can accomodate certain hardware or
software needs. Please understand that you will have to provide a test
environment once modifications are complete and have passed our testing.
Also, there may be substancial costs involved. Please contact The CarPC
